Research Model
The objectives of this study are to:
1) to explore the values and meanings of socially accountable medical education;
2) to explore how individuals narrate social accountability;
3) to translate the storied accounts of socially accountable medical education.
Project 1: The focus of this project is inwards looking and explores the ways in which the collective understanding of social accountability within the research team changes across the project. Data collection occurs throughout the project and consists of:
Project 2: In the second stage of this study, across four international sites, art making and storytelling workshops were conducted with participants. Participant artwork made across these international workshops is included here.
Project Two also involved catechization of Part Two transcripts, participant renderings and researcher notes. Data from each of the four international sites was then coded separately, and art made from each site. The art from site artist-researchers is a result of that analysis.
Research Design and Methodology: This project uses a parallaxic praxis research design that is described as “a multi-modal, transmethodological research framework utilized by interdisciplinary teams to collect, interpret, transmediate, analyze and mobilize data generatively” (p. 1). It is an arts integrated research model and methodology that leverages the researchers individual and collective strengths. It utilizes multi-perspective analysis, multi-model investigations, dialogic conversations, and innovative knowledge creation to create new possibilities across disciplines and content areas.
